Which name refers to money and which to an item?
| Name or price unit | What it means | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | Basic currency and a market payment unit[1] [6] | The Gold amount requested for the item |
| Named runes | Separate market payment using items[6] | Each specified rune and quantity |
| Ruby / Rubies wallet currency | Replaced by Gold in the October 2, 2023 overhaul[5] | An old wallet screenshot is not a current Gold payment guide |
| Ruby Ore | Ore from Ruby Veins in Nightmare/Hell, requiring Mining 500[3] | The exact ore item and stack quantity |
Gold Ore is also a material, despite its name. The mining entries distinguish Gold Ore from Ruby Ore by vein, difficulty and skill requirement.[3] For an offer named only “Gold” or “Rubies,” the full in-game name tells you whether you are comparing a wallet balance or a stack of ore.
Why old guides show a Ruby balance
The October 2, 2023 Hero Siege 2.0 launch announcement replaced Ruby currency with Gold and introduced prices made up of named runes and quantities.[5] The official wiki’s market overview still describes Gold and runes as payment options.[6] The historical change explains the confusing name; it does not supply a current equipment price or exchange rate.

The red vein in the mining document is Ruby Vein, and the red material beside Ruby Ore is the item it produces. The listed requirement is Mining 500 in Nightmare and Hell.[3] These are mining conditions, not requirements for spending Gold in the market.
Buy at Veros and collect sold-item Gold at the Mailbox
During online play, visit Veros in the northern part of Mos’Arathim in Act 3 to buy or sell market items.[2] [4] Read the payment unit alongside the equipment price: a Gold amount and a list of runes are different requirements.[6]
Hero Siege’s EULA prohibits buying or selling game resources, items or services for real-world currency and identifies RMT as a reason for account sanctions.[7]
If Gold is the missing payment for your equipment goal and you compare external currency options, match Hero Siege, your character’s season and trading environment, and the total Gold amount. A Gold option will not fulfill a price payable in named runes or a recipe that requires Ruby Ore.
View Hero Siege currency optionsFor a direct trade, select another player in your lobby and send a trade request from the context menu. Once accepted, the trade can contain Gold or items.[2] That is a different route from listing an item on the market.

The Mailbox is in Inoya, Act 1. It handles items sent to or received from other players and the Gold collected from sold Marketplace listings.[2] A sold listing and its collected proceeds are separate steps, which matters when checking why your spendable Gold has not increased yet.
Listing cost and collection cost are separate
The Marketplace entry lists a 1% listing fee and a 10% Gold collection fee.[4] In an illustrative sale of 100,000 Gold, suppose the actual listing charge is 1,000 and the collection charge is 10,000. You collect 90,000 Gold; the increase measured from before listing is 89,000. These are example amounts, not a live equipment quote. If your current balance already reflects the paid listing charge, do not subtract it again when adding the 90,000 collected.
Those documented charges concern the market. Do not impose them on a direct player trade without a matching charge in that transaction.[2] [4] Likewise, the 2023 announcement’s untaxed-rune statement is historical; the current confirmation screen controls the quantity you hand over.[5]
Read the unit before comparing a quantity
“Gold 1,000,000,” “Ruby Ore 100,” and a named rune followed by a count describe different things. The first is a Gold amount; the second is 100 ore items; the third is a quantity of that rune. Start with the unit demanded by the equipment listing, then match the delivered amount to the same character environment.[3] [6]
