WoW Classic Gold Delivery: What Mail, Trade, and Auctions Require

Mail lets you collect later, direct trade requires both players to meet, and auctions require a sellable item plus a deposit and sale deduction.

Choose mail when you want to collect later, direct trade when both characters can meet online, and the Auction House only when you can list an item and agree on the net sale proceeds. Mail and trade let you check the delivered gold directly; an auction requires separating the buyout price, deposit, and deduction.[1]

This is Blizzard’s actual Self-Found Adventurer buff and tooltip. While it is active, trade, auction use, and most mail are restricted. Use it to identify the Self-Found restriction rather than confusing it with an ordinary receiving window.[6]

Buying third-party gold for real money violates Blizzard’s rules and can result in account penalties. The delivery method does not change that policy.[4]

Mail: receive gold without approving a charge

Right-click a mailbox, open Inbox, and open the expected message. Read the sender, attached gold, and any C.O.D. charge before collecting. C.O.D. means you pay to receive an item; it is not a way of accepting incoming gold. Once you collect, check the increase in your bag balance.[1]

The sender does not need to remain online while you collect. Treat the mailbox’s actual arrival state as decisive: a plain message, an attachment, and auction settlement need not share the same timing. The old manual’s delivery times are not a current Anniversary delivery promise.

Direct trade: read the other side of the window

Meet the other character, right-click it, and select Trade. The window has a side for each player. Read the other character’s name and their gold field, then confirm only the final amount. Both players must click Trade to complete it; check your bag balance afterward.[1]

This route requires an agreed online time and meeting place. It does not require you to list a disposable item or advance an auction deposit.

Auctions: the buyer purchases your listed item

Click an auctioneer and open Auctions. Put a sellable, non-soulbound item into the listing slot, set the quantity and Buyout, review the Deposit, and use Create Auction. Match the exact item and listing with the intended buyer. A completed sale sends the proceeds through mail, minus the auctioneer’s deduction, while returning the deposit. Expiry without a sale loses the deposit.[1]

For an illustrative sale at 1,000 gold with a 50-gold deduction, your net sale proceeds are 950 gold. If a 2-gold deposit returns in the same settlement, receiving 952 gold does not mean you gained 952: the deposit was already yours. This example explains the accounting; it does not set a universal Classic auction rate.

Clarify whether the quoted amount is the buyout price or the amount you should receive after the deduction. A promised net amount requires a higher listing price if a cut applies. Blizzard Support cannot reverse an unwanted auction purchase or sale.[5]

Ask a guard for the mailbox or Auction House

Blizzard’s Classic Ironforge map helps you locate the city districts. Ask a guard for the Auction House or mailbox and follow the red flag marked on your map. For direct trade, agree on a meeting place in the same district. An Alliance character removing Self-Found can find an Apprentice Watcher in the Hall of Explorers shown on this map.[7] [6]

Check the actual receiving prerequisite

Connected Classic Era realms share the Auction House and support trade and mail inside the cluster. Keep the recipient’s actual realm and same-faction identity, rather than treating any different realm label as incompatible.[2] [1]

For other new Classic characters, the first paid month restricts giving gold or items; the current support article allows receiving them freely and selling items on the Auction House. This is different from the Self-Found restriction pictured above.[3]

Finish with the selected delivery details

For mail, settle the recipient name and collection step. For trade, add the online time and meeting place. For an auction, settle the item, quantity, buyout, and amount after the deduction. Those details determine how much gold you can actually use when delivery ends.
