Path of Exile 1 vs 2 Currency: League and Standard Checks

Match the game, exact league, platform environment, currency unit, and recipient before considering any Path of Exile currency offer.

Path of Exile currency must match the recipient character’s exact game and league. Do not treat a familiar item name as proof that currency belongs in Path of Exile 1 rather than Path of Exile 2, or in a challenge league rather than Standard. Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile 2 FAQ says the currency stash tab holds different items in the two games, so shared account access or similar terminology does not establish currency compatibility.2

Which currency destination does your character use?

Start from the character that will receive the currency. Its game client and league label define the destination; the listing must follow those details exactly.

Account rules come before any purchase

Grinding Gear Games’ current terms authorize virtual-item trading only for personal, non-commercial purposes through its in-game trading mechanisms and official website APIs.1 A third-party real-money currency purchase falls outside that stated permission, creating a material account-policy risk even when the destination details are correct.

  • Using gameplay drops or official in-game trading avoids the destination and delivery claims made by an outside seller.
  • A correctly labeled offer can still conflict with the game’s trading terms.
  • An ambiguous game, league, platform, quantity, or delivery route is a reason to stop, not a detail to infer.

Confirm Path of Exile 1 or Path of Exile 2

Open the game you use for the recipient character rather than relying on a seller’s abbreviation. The official FAQ confirms that one existing account can be used for both games, while game-specific content can differ.2 Account identity therefore does not answer the game-version question.

  1. Read the full game title in the launcher or title screen.
  2. Select the intended character and copy its displayed league label exactly.
  3. Open that game’s inventory or currency stash and confirm the requested currency exists there.
  4. Compare the listing’s full game name, not just “PoE,” with the open client.
  5. Reject any claim that currency can be moved from Path of Exile 1 to Path of Exile 2 unless a current official source explicitly documents that route.

Challenge league and Standard are different destinations

A Path of Exile 2 league begins with a fresh economy, and its characters and items move to Standard only after that league finishes.4 For Path of Exile 1, GGG support likewise says progression from a short-term challenge league moves to Standard at league end and may take time to complete.3 These are end-of-league migrations, not a way to supply Standard currency to an active-league character today.

Choose an option only when every field agrees

  • Consider a listing only if it names the correct game, exact active league or Standard, platform environment, currency unit, total quantity, recipient and delivery requirements.
  • Use official gameplay or in-game trading when the policy risk is unacceptable.
  • Wait for written clarification when a seller uses only “PoE,” omits the league, or substitutes “Standard” for a named challenge league.
  • Leave the offer when its title, options, description or checkout show conflicting destinations.

If every destination field matches and you still decide to compare a third-party marketplace, G2G is one contextual place to review currently listed options. Treat each listing detail as seller-stated until it agrees with your own character and checkout screens.

Classify each offer field as verified, seller-stated, conflicting or unknown. “Verified” means your own live screen agrees with the selected listing and checkout; a seller’s text alone remains seller-stated.

Check the selected account and platform

GGG’s account-system announcement says linked accounts may retain separate sub-accounts and separately listed characters, with an account selector at the top of character selection.5 Confirm that you are viewing the sub-account containing the intended character before copying any identifier.

  • Share only the minimum recipient information required by a clearly documented delivery method.
  • Never provide a password, email password, recovery code, session token or authenticator code.
  • Recheck the selected platform environment after changing a sub-account or character.
  • Save the listing title, selected options, quantity calculation and written delivery terms before payment.

When should you walk away?

  • The offer names neither Path of Exile 1 nor Path of Exile 2.
  • The seller will not provide the exact league name before payment.
  • Standard appears in one part of the order and a challenge-league name appears elsewhere.
  • The currency name, unit or total changes between the listing and cart.
  • Delivery depends on sharing account credentials.
  • The claimed transfer route conflicts with the game or league shown on your character screen.
  • You are unwilling to accept the account-policy risk of a third-party real-money transaction.

Complete the pre-payment review

  1. Open the intended character in the correct game client.
  2. Copy the exact league label and confirm whether it is a challenge league or Standard.
  3. Match the platform environment, currency name and unit.
  4. Calculate the total quantity from the selected unit and count.
  5. Confirm the recipient and delivery steps without disclosing credentials.
  6. Compare the title, options, description and cart for conflicts.
  7. Choose gameplay, official in-game trading or no purchase if any field remains unknown.

A suitable option is one whose game, league, platform, currency, quantity, recipient and delivery instructions all agree with your live screens. If those fields are documented and you accept the policy risk, check the current options; otherwise, keep the character in its existing economy and obtain currency through gameplay or permitted in-game trading.
